The Nigeria Institute of Building NIOB, Ebonyi State chapter, On Thursday, held her 2024 Builders Day with the theme, 'THE ROLE OF BUILDERS IN SUSTAINABLE HOUSING DELIVERY.
The state Chairman of (NIOB) Bldr. Joseph Edugie, highlighted the indispensable role of builder in building production
Edugie, who is a fellow, Nigeria Institute of Building (FNIOB) stated that the job of a builder is to manage building production process from foundation to finishing.
He decried non Involvement of professional builders in the building production process which according to him, is the reason for the incessant building collapse in the country today.
"Most of the cases of collapsed building, we found out that the services of Builder was not involved in the construction of the building.
If builder is involved in the construction of the building, he must
stand his ground to ensure that quality of production is made".
He revealed that they have been carrying out advocacy and sensitisation of the public on the need to engage builders in their Building production to eradicate cause of building collapse.
"We have been carrying out advocacy and sensitization of the public on the need to involve professional in carrying out their building projects to avoid incessant building collapse".
He listed the process one can undergo to be a professional Builder.
"For one to be a professional builder, the person must acquire academic qualifications to the highest level and register with the Nigeria Institute of Building (NIOB) and start taking their professional examination for the person to qualify as a registered builder with NIOB. The NIOB will dot them after then, they will register with (CORBON) council of registered Builders of Nigeria, which is the regulatory bodies of Building production practices in Nigeria. CORBON authentic your becoming a builder after series of examination and interviews after successful process you can be issued with stamp and seal which can serve as a professional identity"..
He advised those who want to carry out Building production to look out for professional to avoid loss of life and materials.

Emphasized that according to Builders act of 1994 L13, Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Builders has been given the power to manage all accept of Building production from start to finish.
He enjoined the would be, client to patronize a CORBON registered builder in order to achieve sustainable housing delivery and save cost and loss.
The Commissioner for capital City Development, Chief Sunday Inyima, represented by Mrs Esther Nwite , HoD, town planning, ministry of Capital City Development, laid more emphasis on the enormous task of builders and urged them to take the task seriously to help curb the increasing cases of building Collapse in the country.
"I welcome you people to our ministry. Our ministry is the ministry that is posed with control of all physical planning matters within the capital city, and the capital City is bounded by the ring Road. I want to say, we are together in the buit Industry. When you come to built industry, we know ourselves, the architect, the builders, the Engineers, the town planners, surveyors, quantity surveyors and others. This supposed to be builders ministry. Infact the works department of our ministry is headed by a builder. You people are represented in our ministry but that's not enough. We're hoping that in the nearest future, we will have many of you in the ministry. You Know, the job of builders is on the field, you start with paper work and you end up in the site. So, there's so much for builders to do in our state because if the builders build right, the problem of incessant building Collapse will no longer be the order of the day. I know that, commemorating the builders day today, will be a thing that will make the builders and everybody in the built Industry to reflect and find a better ways of doing things right in the site. When we build right, we save lives, we save cost and save the society at large".
Lending his voice, the state Assistant Secretary of the body, Bldr Okoro Offor Joshua, (Majesty) commended the state Governor Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for providing an enabling environment for the professional bodies to thrive. Okoro Offor Joshua equally lauded the governor who is equally a member of the body for the quality of construction going on in the state.
He however, appealed to the Governor to ensure he engage professional builders in all the construction and Building production sites in the state.
He thanked the leadership of NIOB in the state led by Bldr Joseph Edugie for his leadership prowess and for successfully organizing the 2024 Builders day. He equally expressed appreciation to all his fellow Builders who availed themselves, the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Builders day in the state.
One of the student participants and president of department of Building Technology, Akanu Ibiam Federal polytechnic Uwanna, Mr Egwu Charles Isu, appreciated the leadership of NIOB for giving them the opportunity to be part of day stressing that he is proud to be a student builder.
Egwu opined that he has been active participant since 2019, noting that Building profession is the profession that cannot allow one go hungry after graduation.
2024 Builders week began on Monday with visitation to schools and had lecture and radio program with the grand finale on Thursday which featured Road show and visit to some selected Government ministries.
