A nongovernmental organization; Lifeline Initiative Against Drug Abuse and other Social Vices (LIADAS) has intensified her campaign to end all forms of drug abuse and social vices in Ebonyi State through inauguration of LIADAS Club in selected schools in the State. The club inauguration was one of the major highlights of the organization’s annual schools summit held recently at Annunciation Schools Kpirikpiri, Abakliki Ebonyi State.

LIADAS, Mrs. Christy Nwakaego Onu in her address at the event, said the summit
and inauguration of the school clubs were to further intensify outreach
campaign against drug abuse and to engage more youths and students as vanguards
in educating others on dangers of drug abuse, premarital sex, negative peer
influence and other social vices. She emphasized that members and volunteers of
the NGO were determined to assist government and relevant authorities to build
a sane society by catching the youths and students young.
Mrs. Christy who expressed concern over the rising cases of drug abuse, premarital sex and other social vices among teenagers in today’s society, called for more collaboration with government, parents, school management, teachers and other NGOs in building a decent society that is free from social vices.
“Lifeline Initiative Against Drug Abuse and other Social vices LIADAS, is a non-governmental organization that seeks to join force with other organizations and peace loving citizens to utilize the potentials that is embedded in the populace and environs. We need to join hands and hearts in rebuilding our world. Because if we do not, things will worsen and the level of social vices will overtake all our good efforts and life will be most difficult for all.
“It is in response to
this that we are passionately calling on governments and other stakeholders to
be part of our activities/operations, and to respond to possible challenges
that will impede the full operations and utilization of the great potentials in
our future generation,” she stated.
She further noted that LIADAS as an Initiative would be glad to partner with youth organizations, parents, schools, churches, government agencies and non-governmental organizations in strengthening students and youths awareness on dangers of social vices, adding that it would make our communities more resilient to social vices and harm.
“We see a reformed society where sound moral values are upheld and the youths are industrious with visible positive resolve and result. Thus, we implore lovers of Ebonyi, the youth, civil servants, the well to do, the skilled, the privileged, the businesspersons , civil society organizations, our leaders, force men and women, every meaningful member of the State to support this initiative to play down social vices and promote good morals. We need your support, your advice, your time, skill, connections and funding to implement the ideas and programmes as well as solutions that can correct the present social vices in Ebonyi State and uphold the good virtues already in practice. Join us let us voice against vice” she concluded.
Resource persons including Staff of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, former commissioner for Women affairs in Ebonyi state, Hon. Mrs. Margret Nworie, co-chair of Ebonyi Coalition of Civil Society organizations Dr. Kelechukwu Okezie, representative of Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, clergies, Proprietors of schools among others sensitized the students on negative effects of drug abuse, premarital sex, cultism, examination malpractice and other social vices.
The annual LIADASA
School summit with the theme “War Against Drug Abuse and Social Vices, Catching
them young”, had in attendance over ten schools from different parts of the
State, especially Abakliki the State capital.
Highlights of the summit were the formal
establishment of LIADAS School clubs, award of scholarship to students who made
presentation, drama presentations, questions and answer sessions, prayers,
talents and skills display.
