Over one hundred and twenty persons over the weekend participated in the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine road walk campaign in Afikpo Ebonyi State. The road walk which was to sensitized the public on the need to take part in the vaccination was organized by Abraham’s Children Foundation (ACF) and Advocates for Accountability and Inclusion in Africa (AAIA), with support from Direct Consulting and Logistics (DCL), Women Advocates for Vaccine Access (WAVA) and funded by International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC).
The event held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Afikpo, Afikpo LGA, had participants drawn from schools, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and churches. The Federal Road Safety Corps were also in attendance to maintain orderliness on the road. Addressing the media, the organizers noted that the objective of the campaign was to create awareness and sensitization on the HPV vaccine, especially the target audience. "We wantto let the public know that State-wide immunization on the vaccine will run from May 27 to May 31, 2024.
The Executive Director of ACF, Mr. Victor Koreyo, and his co-host, the Executive Director of AAIA, Mr. John Okocha, said the road walk will help to amplify the sensitization efforts of the vaccine champions at ward and settlement levels. They appreciated the efforts of the participants for responding to the invitation and complying with the rules guiding the exercise.
