Based on the timetable for the conduct of local Government Area election in Ebonyi State as released by Ebonyi State independent electoral commission, EBSIEC, the All Progressives Congress APC in the state has commenced the sales of nomination and expression of interest forms, pegging the forms for twenty five million naira (#25,000,000) only for Chairmanship position while forms for councilorship goes for two hundred thousand naira only, (200,000).
The state party Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha disclosed this to journalist on Sunday, after the state Executive Committe (SEC) meeting held at Remeritona Hotel, Abakaliki, the state capital.
Emegha noted that SEC approved waiver for expression of interest form for all female aspirants and their male counterpart below the age of 40 years.
The state APC Boss noted further that the sales of forms will commence on Monday, 13th May and close on 23rd May, while the primary election will hold on the first of june and the election according to him, is open to all eligible members of the party.
Here him, "Based on the EBSIEC timetable for the conduct of Local Government Election in the state, the party need to make a move, because we wouldn't want to violate the electoral act. We have the party's timetable too which we cannot start the implementation without calling for SEC meeting and that's exactly what we did today.
"Let the owners of the party know that there's election coming up, which is the local Government election. The current Council Chairmen has two years to serve and by September 1st, their tenure will expire, so there's need for us to begin the preparation for the process of the election on time.
"Sales of forms will commence on Monday, May 13, 2024 and the party's primary will hold on 1st of June. Female aspirants are taking the expression of interest forms free, no matter the cadre. Those aspiring for Councilorship is paying fifty thousand naira (50,000) expression of interest form and the nomination form is one hundred and fifty thousand naira only (#150,000). Then, an aspirant for Chairmanship that is below 40years will be given expression of interest form free while he will pay twenty million naira (20,000,000) for nomination form. An aspirant above 40years will pay five million naira (#5,000,000) expression of interest form and twenty million naira (#20,000,000) nomination form. This is the decision of the party and we have our reasons for that
"Anybody that is a card carrying members of our party is qualified to contest but the constitution and guidelines of our party must be strictly followed"..
Recall that Ebonyi State independent electoral commission early this month released the timetable for the conduct of local Government Election in the state, making July 20, the date for the election.
