Ebonyi State Commissioner for Capital City Development Chief Sunday Inyima said his Ministry is ever ready to ensure that the core mandate of the ministry which is to inspect and regulate everything that is happening within the built industry in the State Capital City is achieved.
Chief Inyima stated this during an oversight function visit of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Capital City Development in his office at no 7 Ezza Road, Abakaliki.
In his word " i and my management staff are happy to welcome you to our ministry, this is an opportunity to see His Excellency Rt. Hon. Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in another form, we are in the Executive Council with His Excellency but there are some issues which would better discussed within the legislative arm of the government that will give more flesh to the ministry.
"The Capital City i know is been monitored by the concrete Abakaliki ring road of the then Governor of the old Anambra State Jim Nwaobodo but the place we are now is called Abakaliki Core Urban City"
He informed the Committee that since the creation of Ebonyi State, the Capital City has no master plan and appeal that the State Government through the committee approve the publication of Abakaliki Master Plan and that the State Governor who came with People Charter of needs policy may gciously look into it and make approval through the budget submitted by the ministry.
Earlier, the Chairman House Committee on Capital City, Hon.Arinze Lucas Chukwu said that the ministry should seriously look into what is happening with those building churches and mostly those building breaching water ways thereby causing obstruction within the capital city.
He said that the health of every citizen of Ebonyi State is of utmost importance and enjoined the ministry to articulate everything the ministry needs to improve their work to the committee to enable them debate on it and know where to help them actualize their objective.
Some of the members of the committee including the vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Mrs. Chinyere Nwaogbaga, Hon. Chikezei Igu, Hon. Charles Onah and Hon. Esther Agwu among others mentioned some of the areas where the management of the ministry should look into like; locust housing estate, Ben Igwenyi Street, Achi Street amongst others. They condemed the poor attitude of the developers of the state by building on water ways in the state,hence causing environmental hazards to the residents of the state.
The committee admonished the ministry of Capital City to work incollaboration with the ministry of environment and health to ensure that the state capital is been kept clean through the removal of dumped refuse and also help in decongesting some people who trades along the major junction like Ebebe junction and Abofia market in Abakaliki.
In a vote of thanks, Mrs. Esther Nwite the Head of Department of Town Planning appreciated the effort of the state government in trying to ensure that every sector in the state are been managed well and prayed that the committee should assist the Ministry of Capital City Development to actualize her dream.
