CSOs, NDLEA, Ebonyi First Lady Forms Synergy Against Drug Abuse

Civil Society Organizations in partnership with National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA and the wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Uzomaka Nwifuru have organized an event marking the international day against drugs abuse with a resolution to collectively fight the rising cases of drugs abuse in Ebonyi State.

The CSOs, NDLEA and the first lady, observed that with the rising cases of Drug abuse in the State, there was need for a collaborative effort between relevant Stakeholders, offices and individuals to campaign against illicit intake, abuse of drugs and other social vices especially among students and youths.

Mrs. Nwifuru who was the special guest at the event held at Women Development Center, WDC Abakaliki pledged to partner relevant NGOs, National Drug law enforcement agency, NDLEA through her pet project known as BERWO to sensitize students and youths across the thirteen local government areas in the State and to ensure that those involved in the act are rehabilitated.

Some of the NGOs who took part in the Program, including Faith Community Counselling organization led by Mrs. Margret Nworie, Lifeline Initiative Against Drug Abuse and other social Vices, LIADAS led by Mrs. Christy Onu, NEW Foundation led by Dr. Kelechi Okezie and the State Coordinator of Civil Society on Mental Health and Drug Demand Reduction (CiSMHeDDR), Rev Ume Okafor all pledged to continue in their efforts through advocacy, school outreach programs and partnership with other relevant bodies in ensuring that cases of drugs abuse are reduced in the State.

There were lectures on negative effects of drugs abuse by NDLEA and other experts, presentations by students among other activities.
