Following the successful conduct of Local Government election in Ebonyi State on 20th July 2024, the reelected Executive Chairman of Ikwo LGA, Hon. Barr. Sunday Basil Nwankwo and his Vice, Hon. Mrs. Chinasa Itumo, joined their counterparts on 23rd July 2024 at the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) office in Abakaliki to receive their Certificates of Return in line with the provisions of law.
The EBSIEC Chairman, Barr. Jossey Eze while addressing the newly elected Chairmen and Ward Councilors, congratulated them and expressed gratitude to God for their victories. He praised the State Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon. Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his commitment to peaceful environment conducive for free and fair elections.
Eze further commended the elected Chairmen for their poise and coordination during and after the elections, despite facing multiple rivals.
He urged the new officials to embrace the governor's People's Charter of Needs mantra, emphasizing the need for transparency, accountability, meekness, legacy, followership, division of labour, inclusivity, and sensitivity in discharge of their duties. He warned against political sentiments that could cause discord and factionalism in their administration.
Additionally, he encouraged the public to respect their leaders and engage in constructive rather than destructive criticism to foster good governance.
In an interview shortly after receiving his certificate, Barr Sunday Nwankwo and other reelected Council Chairmen promised to redouble their efforts, while placing priority on security, youth empowerment, welfare and rural development.
In a vote of thanks, Hon. Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali Nomeh of Ezza North LGA, expressed gratitude to Governor Nwifuru for his exemplary leadership and for ensuring a secured environment for the elections. He also thanked EBSIEC for their timely provision of election materials for the election.
Chief Nomeh pledged unwavering obedience and allegiance to the Governor and committed to building on the achievements of their first tenure.
The event attracted crème de la crème from political parties, EBSIEC, and various Local Government Area, underscoring the importance and success of the electoral process in Ebonyi State.
