Ikwo Council Chairman Sets Up Tasksforce Against Illegal Revenue Collection

Inline with the revenue policy of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and to curb illegal revenue collection in Ikwo LGA, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Barr. Sunday Basil Nwankwo, on Tuesday 9th July 2024 constituted a  taskforce that will work with other Stakeholders to ensure that tax and revenue accuring to Government are legally collected within the Council.

He announced this while playing host to the Tax Education Committee of Ebonyi State Internal Revenue Service (EBSIRS) at the council headquarters, Onuebonyi Echara. The team were at the Council to sensitize the people on the revenue policy of the State Government. The Committee memebers included Rt. Hon. Oliver Nwachukwu (Chairman), Hon. Emmanuel Elechi (Secretary), Hon Matthew Ojon, Hon. Leonard Nwofeigbo, Nwedu Abraham Nwedu among others. 
The Council Chairman expressed gratitude to the committee for their timely visit and commended them for promoting the Governor's People's Charter of Needs mantra, especially in revenue generation. He also praised the State Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon. Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his effective leadership and commitment to all round Development of the State.

On the policy statement of the Governor, Hon. Barr. Nwankwo revealed that he had on assumption of office, granted revenue waiver to some areas which covered all petty traders in markets within the Council. He reaffirmed Ikwo Noyo Clan's unwavering support to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru led administration in the State.
In his response to the State tax Education team's request for Local Government taskforce on illegal revenue collection, Hon. Barr. Nwankwo demonstrated his understanding of the sensitization by inaugurating the Ikwo Local Government taskforce to support the state's efforts. The taskforce team chaired by Mr. Offim Ogbonnaya with Hon. Basil Igwe as secretary, Mrs. Priscilla Nweke and others to be appointed was charged to oversee revenue activities and prevent misuse of tax policies in Ikwo LGA.

Earlier while Addressing stakeholders and people of the Council, the leader of the State Tax Education Committee, Hon. Oliver Nwachukwu explained that their visit was to educate the people on the dos and don'ts of tax payment, revenue collection, and remittance in the State.
He lauded Hon. Barr. Sunday Nwankwo for his exceptional leadership qualities, clean initiatives and the the positive facelift he gave to the Council headquarters. He noted that their visit was not to burden the people with taxes, but to educate them on proper tax practices and the Governor's policy on revenue collection in the State. The committee emphasized the importance of tax payment by eligible individuals and outlined the revenue categories approved by the State Government. 

They reminded the people that the Governor had suspended all form of revenue collection from petty traders, and stressed the need for total compliance within Ikwo LGA.
The gathering fostered open interaction, allowing for individual suggestions, questions and answers session. Attendees included the Executive Chairman chairman of Ikwo LGA, the Vice Chairman, Principal officers of the Council, unit heads, Traditional Rulers, Councilors, Market Women, Town Union Presidents among other stakeholders.
