Nigeria union of journalist NUJ, Ebonyi State council, has commended the strategic Impacts of the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru on the people of the state.
In a communique issued at the end of the state Congress of the union held on Wednesday, 14th day of August, 2024 at Dr Sam Egwu press center, Abakaliki, the state capital, the union cited the recently concluded Local Government election in the state, various empowerment programs which has direct bearing on the lives of the people and assured the governor of the continued partnership of the Union in promoting the lofty policies and programs of his administration's People charter of needs mantra in the state.
The communique reads in part:
"The well attended Congress which was presided over by the State Chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor, after extensive deliberations came up with the following resolutions:
"The Congress congratulates Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for a successful conduct of the just concluded Local Government elections in the State; and especially commends the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, GGCEHF, FNIOB, for enthronement of enduring democracy and rule of law in the State, without which the elections wouldn't have held as being witnessed in some States of the Federation where Governors are still using Caretaker Committee to run the Local Government Councils.
"Congress also congratulates the newly elected Council Chairmen in the 13 LGAs of the State and urges them to see their victory as call to serve their people in accordance with the People's Charter of Needs agenda of the State Governor.
"Congress commends the State Governor, Rt Hon Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, GGCEHF, FNIOB, for the numerous empowerment programmes initiated by his administration towards bettering the living conditions of Ebonyi people in the face of the rising cost of living and economic hardship bedeviling Nigeria; and urges the Governor to accommodate members of NUJ in the State's empowerment programmes as our members are also having fair share of the current economic predicament in the Country.
"Congress notes the need to take welfare of members seriously, and consequently constituted a 5-man Welfare Committee to work out Modalities for attending to members' welfare. The members of the Committee include: Comrades Israel Ekene Mbam -Chairman, Ogodo Jacob Mbam- Secretary, Chinaza Perculiar John- Treasurer, Agnes Igwe- member and Oswald Agwu- member.
"Congress also notes the need to commence the preparations for its 2024 annual Press Week and accordingly, constituted a 17-man Planning Committee to see to the success of this year's Press Week whose grand finale is proposed to take place on Thursday, October, 3rd, 2024. The 17-man Committee include: Comrades Amechi Odo -Chairman, Nnamdi Akpa, Goodwin Oguta, Oswald Agwu, Uchenna Inya, Chika Igwe, Moses Nwite, Cynthia Egwu, Pauline Nweneri-enwe, Chinwe Imo-Eze Onwosi, Lucy Anyim, Juliana Okoro, Ezeali Ogbonna, Okutu Peter, Nwegede Victor, Ebere Okpara-Oko and Fortunate Ozo--Secretary.
"Congress also Constituted a 7-man Award Committee with the mandate to accept nominations of prospective Awardees from the general public, conduct necessary investigations, screen nominees and come up with successful nominees to be forwarded to the national Secretariat for approval ahead of the Press Week Grand Finale where the final shortlisted nominees would be Honoured. The Committee members are: Comrades Felix Uka--Chairman, Kingsley Okoro, Erogu Moses, Emeka Opara, Amarachi Egwu-Agha, Eugene Ebenyi and Israel Ekene Mbam-Secretary.
"Congress congratulates Comrade Nkechi Oginyi on her re-election as Chairperson, National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ebonyi State Chapter as well as other members of the NAWOJ EXCO elected in the just concluded election in the State. Congress notes that Comrade Oginyi's re-election was a testament of her leadership qualities which she brought to bear in her first tenure and urges her to sustain the tempo; even as Congress pledges to continue to partner and collaborate with the leadership of NAWOJ led by her for our collective interest as one family--the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ebonyi State Council family.
"Congress also congratulates the Treasurer of the Council, Comrade Chinaza Perculiar John on her appointment as a member of the Credentials Committee for the 2024 NUJ national Triennial Delegate Conference scheduled to take place in Owerri, Imo State on November this year, and expresses optimism that she will make the Council proud.
"Congress harps on the need to strictly adhere to the ethics of the profession by every member of NUJ in the State and warns against indulging in sensational and/or yellow journalism as the Council would henceforth begin to take decisive actions against professional misconducts by any member of Union in the State".
