The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has given an approval to the proposal by the Ebonyi State Government to purchase aircraft for services at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke.
Equally approved were maximizing the revenue recovery from utility Infrastructure, the Telecom tax within Ebonyi State and proposal from the state government to secure a contract finance facility.
Also an approval was given to the request by the state government for the engagement of Boards LTD as a consultant to Ebonyi State on NG- CARE Programme.
During the plenary session of the Assembly, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly RT Hon Chief Moses Ije Odunwa highlighted the importance of floating an airline that is fully owned by the Ebonyi State Government and to ensure the maximal operations at the Onueke airport.
He maintained that for the engagement of Quintix Consultancy Services, Ebonyi State Stand the chance to maximize the revenue recovery from telecom taxes within the state.
The Speaker explained that the NG-Cares Program in the State has performed below capacity as a World Bank assisted Federal Government Programme and there is an urgent need to engage a consultant to make it viable.
Moving motion for approval of the requests, the leader of the House and member representing Afikpo North West Hon Kingsley Ikoro said that with Chuba Okadigbo Cargo Airport in operation in Ebonyi State, it will not be proper if the state do not have any aircraft but only await the services of aircrafts from other parts of the country.
Seconding the motion, the member representing Izzi East Constituency Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam described the State Governor's request as wise decision that would not only boots the functionality of the Chuba Okadigbo Cargo Airport but as well provide more revenue generation to the state.
After the debate, the whole honourable members agreed on the importance and benefits of the demands from the State Goverrnor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru through voice votes unanimously adopted.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House Mrs Uche Edene to write a memo to the State Goverrnor informing him the approval of his requests by the House.
