NASS-SC Commends Ebonyi Govt For Ranking First In Establishing State Assembly Service Commission

In fulfillment of one of the responsibilities of the National Assembly Service Commission, Senator Julius Ali Ucha has led the commissioners from the South East geopolitical zone to Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission to interact and sensitize states  that  do not have State Assembly Service Commission to establish same.

Senator Ucha commended both Ebonyi and Imo State Governors for being the only two states in the South East that have fulfilled this obligation.

The leader of the delegation  extolled Governor  Nwifuru for his foresightedness in appointing  former parliamenterian the chairman  of the  State House  of Assembly  service  commission which he said  has  repositioning  the  commission within short time in office. 

He enumerated other activities of the National Assembly Service Commission to include ensuring the development of crop of excellent manpower resources that is competent and knowledgeable, to provide support and expertise to the legislators with a view to meeting the challenges  of good legislations for democratic governance and sustainable development.

Senator Ucha while commending the state Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for the giant strides in infrastructural development, assured that the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission will be one of the first tranche to benefit from the first line charge that will make the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to be fully autonomous.

The other Commissioner who was former speaker of  Imo State House of Assembly  Rt Hon. Amaechi Nwoha in his presentation lamented that the  remaing states in the South East zone are missing out from the benefits of having a state Assembly Service Commissions.

He noted that the quarterly meeting was imperative as it will make them to know  what is on ground in  States adding that it is also necessary for the service commission to have  informed staff.

Responding, the Chairman of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission and a former member of the House of Representative, Rt Hon Francis Elem commended the coming  of the delegates from  National Assembly  Service Commission,especially Senator Julius Ali Ucha who he described as a friend and diligent fellow. 

He recalled that the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission was established in 2016 and he came on board in January 2024 and  since then, the improvement of the staff  performances , renovation of the commission's building and the general welfare of the staff in the  House of Assembly have been the priorities of the Commission.

He commended the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses lje Odunwa for all the supports and approvals made to the Commission which  led to the  provision of the office accommodation of all the  members of the Commission.
 

Hon. Elem however requested the National Assembly Service Commission to expedite action in making the state Houses of Assembly to be fully autonomous as some of the departments of the Commission are still attached to state Ministries.

In a vote of thanks, the Clerk of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mrs Uche Edene thanked the delegates from the National Assembly Service Commission adding that the visit was the first time in their tenure and that they have learnt a lot from it.
