Ebonyi Commissioner Confirms Arrest Of 3 Erring Contractors

The Commissioner for local Government and Chieftaincy matters, Mr Uchenna Igwe said, three contractor has been arrest over alleged  failure to complete the project awarded to them by the state government.

 

Igwe, spoke at the palace of the chairman, South East traditional rulers council, Eze Charles Mkpuma during the inspection of some projects in the area.

 

Recall that the state Governor. Ogbonna Nwifuru, had directed the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mr Francis Ori  to arrest erring contractors handling the Amaeze housing scheme for failure to complete the project.

 

Inspecting  the 70 number housing unit at Ameze Ezilo Autonomous community, Ishielu Local Government Area of the state, The state Governor, Francis Nwifiru,  governor represented by his Deputy,, Patricia Obila, frowned at the rate of abandonment of the housing projects which is been built for the displaced people of Ezilo and redirected the commissioner to ensure that the erring contractor were arrested and made to face the wrought of the law.

 

 

"The contractors involved in this delay must be arrested within three days starting from this night.

 

He observed that that there was not life in the environment which made it negate the huge investments the government has made in project.

 

"These contractors were running after us when they were looking for the job but they are no where to be found now”.

 

He noted that the project was one of those expected that President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate when  he visits the state in December.

 

‘'The housing project in Izzo community is however awesome and thought the contractors have been impressive, environment should be made clean.

 

"We are desirous to enhance our people's well-being at all times as the people's charter of needs mantra is firmly on track”.

 

 The governor also threatened to arrest the commissioner if work on the project does not improve significantly when next he visits the site.

 

"All these things you are saying about the contractors are excuses as our people are waiting upon us to deliver.

 

Engnr. Francis Ori, the Commissioner for Housing and urban development said, the governor's statement is in order as we are already in the process having written to the state Commissioner of Police and attorney general or the state.

 

"I am not aware of any commissioner being awarded the project as the Amaeze people know those handling the project”.

 

He noted that most of the contactors in the Izzo housing project have completed their projects but efforts would be intensified to ensure others are completed.
