Just like in some climes, Ebonyi State which was created in
the 90s has unarguably recorded impressive progress in every facet of its
existence courtesy of its purposeful leaders.
Before the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna
Nwifuru, his predecessors namely Sen Dr Sam Ominyi Egwu, Chief Martin Elechi
and now Minister of Works, Engr Sen David Nweze Umahi made incredible imprints
that brought Ebonyi and her citizenry to the limelight in terms of socio
economic development.
The pioneer Governor, Dr Egwu carved a niche for
himself by delivering in human capital
development especially in education while
Chief Elechi built unity bridges and initiated programmes that reshaped
the attitude of the people towards governance.
The immediate past Governor, Sen Umahi had an expedition on
infrastructure development thereby changing the narrative of backwardness of
Ebonyi to be among the foremost developing states in Nigeria.
Presently, Governor Nwifuru's administration is doting every
"I" and crossing "Ts" to eradicate the burden of economic
realities which Ebonyians just like other
Nigerians are grappling with as a result of fuel subsidy removal.
It is no longer secret that the people of the state have
been smiling to Banks in the last two months as the People's Governor released
Billions of Naira in what his administration tagged financial empowerment to
ensure that they overcome this challenging time.
This is in line with his People's Charter of Needs blueprint
as the workaholic Governor has continued
to keep the ship of the state afloat by sailing against the tides of economic
instabilities in the country through viable economic policies.
In as much as the federal government led by President Bola
Ahmed Tinubu is not relenting to think outside the box in order to rejig the
economy, thousands of Ebonyians have benefitted from the state government
mouthwatering grants ranging from N50,000 to N3,000,000. These disbursements
cut across categories of individuals namely students, farmers, traders, Civil
Servants, Journalists , People living with disabilities, members of inter-Party
Advisory Council (IPAC), youths organisations and Christian Association of
Nigeria (CAN) to mention but a few.
Undoubtedly, the barrage of financial enablement of Governor
Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has created an ease of doing business and stimulated
massive commercial activities within and outside Abakaliki the State Capital.
The empowerment is undeniably a precursor of the influx of
business merchants who have taken over the empty shops at Saint Margaret
Umahi's international market, Abakaliki. Similarly, the 95 people who received
special training in different fields of agriculture and subsequently empowered
with three million naira each have all ventured into agro businesses which the
state was known for abinitio.
The financial empowerment
under the administration of a man of astonishing vigour and intelligence
has practically reduced the menace of street and corporate begging as most
youths are now meaningfully engaged.
Still in line with his administration's roadmap anchored on
the people's needs, the indefatigable and vibrant Nwifuru is the only Governor in the South
East who has joined few others to pay the N70,000 minimum wage to civil
servants.
At this juncture, it is a fact that there is no denizen or
resident of Ebonyi State who has not directly or indirectly benefitted from the
financial assistance of the succour giver, His Excellency, Governor Nwifuru.
His untainted ardour and unwavering commitment toward
improving the people's standard of living amidst economic instabilities did not
foreclose Governor Nwifuru from
maintaining, revamping and building new infrastructure such as Nkaliki
Hatchery, Oferekpe Water Scheme, universities of ICT and aeronautics, etc.
In keeping pace with this flank of development, all the
autonomous communities in the state are witnessing road construction to improve
transportation and esthetics of the localities.
Therefore, since Rt Hon Bld Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru's
approach to governance is the nexus of the people's cheering stories, it is
then time to lend more support for greater achievement and maximum benefit.
Therefore, as the nation commemorates her 64 years of
independence and Ebonyi State at 28, let all of us be more patriotic in
building a virile society for posterity sake.
To God be the glory.
