Keep Hope Alive: SDP Chairman Dr. Agbo Calls for Increased Political Engagement

The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Kingsley Obinna Agbo, has urged citizens to "keep hope alive" and remain engaged in politics amid the ongoing economic challenges and corruption affecting the nation.

Dr. Agbo, a medical doctor by profession, stressed the importance of active participation in politics to bring about meaningful change and restore faith in the democratic system. He made this known during a recent familiarization meeting with both old and new party members. He articulated his vision for the SDP as a formidable alternative in the political landscape of Ebonyi State.

“Our aim is to establish the SDP in Ebonyi State as a viable alternative for citizens seeking genuine representation,” Agbo emphasized. “We want to reassure Nigerians that there is hope and that they can influence the policies that impact their lives.”

A key highlight of the meeting was the party's unanimous vote of confidence in the incumbent Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his empowerment programs, particularly the one-million-naira initiative that has positively impacted many lives. The party also called on the governor to do more for the people.

Agbo highlighted the SDP's commitment to promoting welfare packages and initiatives that would make the party more accessible and relevant to the people. “We are going to bring welfare packages and let Ebonyians know that they have an alternative platform where they can achieve their dreams without the burden of paying exorbitant nomination fees. We are bringing the party down to the people and making them realize that they have alternative platforms to actualize their dreams. Our programs will be more felt and people-oriented.”

Acknowledging the frustration many Nigerians feel towards the political landscape, Agbo urged citizens not to give up hope. “The message to them is to keep hope alive. Nigeria today is really choking for everybody, and people have lost hope in politics. They might think that no matter what they do, the results are always the same. But I’m encouraging them not to give up because more professionals will be coming in to sanitize the system and make a difference. They shouldn’t lose hope; they should keep hope alive and participate in political activities, because this is where policies that govern you and the country come from.

“For instance, regarding the fuel prices we are discussing, if you say you are not interested in joining politics, that’s fine, but it doesn’t stop you from paying 1,300 naira for fuel. These policies are made by individuals who shouldn't even be in those positions. When good people shy away from politics, they give hoodlums the opportunity to decide for them. This is the reality we are facing today, so I’m encouraging people to keep hope alive. More professionals should join us to help sanitize the political system, just like it is in other developed countries of the world.”
