The newly completed Presbyterian Church Akpugo Mission Parish was officially commissioned and inuagurated as a Parish in a grand ceremony led by the Prelate and Moderator of the General Assembly, His Eminence Ekpenyong Akpanika.
The event attracted notable dignitaries, community members, and clergy, who all gathered to celebrate the significant contribution to the church and the community.
While the Presbyterian Church has seen the construction of Church buildings in the area since its establishment in 1939, Dr. Ugota’s effort stands out as the first to be singlehandedly undertaken by an individual.

Reflecting on the motivation behind his act, Dr. Ugota said “My goal is to support the work of God by ensuring His light shines in every part of our village. This Church will bless the community and promote moral and spiritual growth. I owe this achievement to God’s guidance and the unwavering support of my wife.”
He equally advised the youths, encouraging them to harness local opportunities, "there is no place like home. Money comes from solving problems, not from running away. I urge young people to invest time in identifying the needs around them because success lies in providing solutions.”
On her part, the wife of the philanthropist, Mrs. Esther Ugota also shared her joy and gratitude for the project’s success, pointing the importance of partnership in achieving such.
“Having a supportive husband who listens and collaborates is a blessing. I give God the glory for this accomplishment and pray for His continued guidance," she stated.
Dr. Chike Onwe, a prominent stakeholder in the community and a lecturer in Ebonyi state University, lauded Ugota’s dedication to both God and humanity
“Darlington is a builder, not just of structures but of lives. He mentors youths and helps them succeed. I urge others to emulate his focus and determination.”
Another stakeholder, Barr. Ifeanyi Nworie, and the Managing Director of Led Properties Limited, Ben Nwabueze Uwa , also lauded the gesture, stating “Since 1939, no one has singlehandedly built a Presbyterian Church in this region. Darlington has made history, and his effort has drawn the Prelate to Ebonyi. My advice is for others to invest in God, the source of all blessings."
The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Oguzor Offia-Nwali praised Ugota’s commitment to his hometown:
“This project exemplifies the importance of giving back to one’s roots. Home is where our legacy begins, and I encourage others to contribute to their communities.”
During the dedication service, His Eminence Akpanika emphasized the spiritual significance of the Church
“True immortality lies in what we do for others and for God, not in material possessions. Let this Church be a beacon of faith and service to humanity.
He Commended Dr. Darlington for his contribution to the Church, empowerment of youths and his Community through various programmes. He prayed God to bless and protect him and his family.
