Senate Deputy Chief Whip Unveils New Football Club, 'Nwebonyi FC'

The Senate Deputy Chief Whip wearing the golden boots of Ebonyi North Senatorial district – Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has officially unveiled a brand new football club named Nwebonyi FC stressing that it is meant to complement the efforts of Governor Nwifuru’s relentless drive for sports development in the state.

Senator Nwebonyi unveiled the new football club at Mbeke Ishieke Primary School field on December 8, 2024 amidst cheering applause from sports lovers and enthusiasts.

Addressing some journalists shortly after the inaugural match of the brand new football club at the Mbeke Ishieke Primary School field, Senator Nwebonyi said that he launched the football club in order to complement the efforts of the Governor who recently inaugurated the Abakaliki Football Club and as well redirect the minds of the youths towards embracing sports and other meaningful vocations adding that sports is currently a very lucrative business world over. In his words:
“It’s my passionate intention to use this club to identify young football talents across the state and even beyond, train them and export them abroad for greater opportunities. I will be the happiest man on earth if I could be the ladder from which some of our youths would climb to their dream clubs and prosper their lives.”


Speaking, the team coach, Mr Igwe Samuel Chinonso (Eto) commended Senator Nwebonyi  for launching the new football club noting that they would soon zoom into national and international reckoning with dedication and hardwork. He explained that the club has started scouting for talented players within Ebonyi North zone and elsewhere assuring that he will nurture them to greatness. He therefore advised young talented players to register with the club as their intensive trainings would soon commence.
Senator Nwebonyi who said that soccer is one of his best hobbies featured in the inaugural match of the club scoring two goals to defeat his opponents who managed to find the net only once.
