The Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Council, Chief Hon. Stephen Ebere Nwogba, in partnership with "She Grows Her Food" Initiative, a non-governmental organization committed to empowering women and ensuring food security, has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to philanthropy.
In a program tagged "Abakaliki One Day Food for All", various cooperative societies and vulnerable groups, including children from orphanage homes, the disabled, and the elderly, were empowered. The event, held at the Abakaliki Local Government Council Headquarters in Nkaliki, was a platform to distribute essential items such as food, wrappers, footwears, soaps, and detergents to indigent participants. Additionally, free medical check-ups were conducted, and participants enjoyed sumptuous meals, making the occasion both impactful and memorable.
Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of "She Grows Her Food" Initiative, Princess Comfort Ifesinachi Nweke, emphasized the importance of empowering women to reduce the economic burden on men. She explained that the initiative is determined to help women achieve self-reliance, which, in turn, strengthens households, communities and the society at large. Princess Ifesinachi highlighted the success of cooperative societies under the NGO, revealing that many members had undergone specialized agricultural training, including programs in Sungai, and are now thriving in their respective fields.
She called on well-meaning individuals and organizations to support "She Grows Her Food" Initiative in achieving its mission of alleviating hardship among women and vulnerable groups.
In his address, Chief Hon. Stephen Ebere Nwogba commended Princess Comfort Ifesinachi and the team behind "She Grows Her Food" Initiative for their commitment to fighting hunger and poverty. He noted that the initiative aligns with the "People's Charter of Needs" manifesto of the current administration in Ebonyi State, and pledged the continued support and partnership of Abakaliki Local Government in achieving the NGO’s objectives.

According to James Ndubuis Nwakpa, Special Assistant on Media to Abakaliki Local Government Chairman, the event which started with holy mass by Rev. Fr. Alex Eze was not only a celebration of philanthropy, but also a testament to the power of partnerships in fostering sustainable development and improving the lives of the less privileged.
