Chief Nwizi made this known when the leadership of SWAN, led by its chairman, Comr. Ndubuisi Nwogha, paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Abakaliki.
He commended the association for its contributions to sports development and assured them of the station’s commitment to ensuring the success of SWAN Week 2025.
According to the DG, sports remain a powerful unifying factor, and the media plays a crucial role in sustaining peace through their coverage. He also emphasized Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s dedication to sports development, stating that the governor had been a strong supporter of sporting activities even before assuming office.
"Sports is a unifying force in Ebonyi, and as journalists, you have a duty to promote peace through your work. His Excellency has always believed in sports as a tool for unity and development, and we must support that vision. We will work together to ensure SWAN Week is successful," he said.
Chief Nwizi further called on sports journalists to focus more on local teams, particularly Abakaliki FC, also known as The Rice Boys, to boost their visibility and encourage young talents.
In response, SWAN chairman Comr. Ndubuisi Nwogha expressed appreciation for the DG’s warm reception and assured him of the association’s commitment to working with the corporation.
"We are coming out in a new way to function effectively, aligning with His Excellency’s people’s charter of needs. We appreciate your support and assure you that Ebonyi SWAN remains united," he stated.
Also speaking, Chairman Emeritus Emeka Okpara, a senior correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), thanked the DG for his support, assuring that SWAN will continue to work in synergy with the media to promote sports and unity in the state.
