Ebonyi Government Denies Involvement In Igboayaka's Ordeal

By Our Reporter

The Ebonyi State Government has dismissed speculations that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru ordered the arrest of Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, made this clarification in a press statement issued today.

The statement followed online reports alleging that the Governor influenced the arrest of Igboayaka, a factional leader of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, in connection with the recent deadly attack on Amegu Nkalaha in Ishielu Local Government Area. The tragic incident which claimed several lives and led to the destruction of properties has contacted to draw nationwide condemnations.

Dr. Uzor described the allegations as a desperate attempt by "social media contractors and online merchants" to distract the public from Governor Nwifuru’s developmental strides. He emphasized that the Governor had no role in any police action against Igboayaka, stating:

"As the Chief Security Officer of Ebonyi State, Governor Nwifuru remains committed to upholding justice, ensuring peace, and protecting the rights of all Ebonyians. Any arrest or investigation by the Nigerian Police is purely within the jurisdiction of security agencies and independent of any influence from the Governor."

The government, however, noted that Igboayaka had previously claimed to have prior knowledge of the attack, raising concerns about the source of his information. The statement questioned how he obtained intelligence on the attack despite not being affiliated with the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) or the Department of State Services (DSS).

Dr. Uzor reaffirmed Governor Nwifuru’s condemnation of the Amegu Nkalaha attack and assured the public that security agencies were working to bring the perpetrators to justice. He urged Ebonyians to disregard false narratives and support ongoing security efforts in the state.

"The government remains committed to justice, transparency, and the security of its people," the statement concluded.
