Ensure Speedy Development Of South-East', Senator Eze Charges SEDC

The Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC) has charged the Board and Management of the Commission to live up to their mandate by ensuring speedy and even development of the South East region.

Senator Eze who represents Ebonyi Central Senatorial zone and Chairman, Senate Committee, on Information and National Orientation, gave the charge on Thursday at the joint meeting of the Committee where the  Board and Management of the Commission presented and defended their 2025 Budget proposal in Abuja.

Addressing the Managing Director of the Commission, Hon. Mark Okoye, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Board of Directors of the Commission, Dr Emeka Nworgu, and their team after their presentations, Sen Eze reminded them of the strategic importance of the Commission in addressing the infrastructure needs of the people of Ndigbo, facilitating the economic growth of the region and improving the overall wellbeing of the people. 

He urged the Board and Management of the Commission to pay special attention in ensuring "we have a functional seaport in the South East, build an independent power plant for improved electricity supply in the region, and development of our railways infrastructure."

According to Eze, attention in these areas are veritable catalysts that will engender speedy development of South East and stand the region on strong footing to favourably compete with any developed economies anywhere in the world.

He reiterated the need for the  Board and Management of the Commission to ensure that every kobo budgeted to the Commission is fully deployed and judiciously used to ensure that "we bridge the infrastructure gap in the region and meet the expectations of the people."

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Speaker of the House of Representatives RT. Hon Tajudeen Abbas, and the leadership of the 10th National Assembly for making the South East Development Commission a reality.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the joint Committee, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and  co-chaired by his House of Representatives counterpart represented by his Vice.END//
