The people of Amakpu kindred in mgbede Akeze community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, have cried out to the state Governor,Chief Francis Nwifuru to come to their rescue following the crisis that erupted in the community last year.
Speaking to our reporter, Mr Chikezie Okor lamented the degree of killings, destruction and looting of their property and farm proceeds by hoodlums in the community and called on government to assist in resolving the issues so that peace and normalcy will return to mgbede again.
"My name is Mr Chikezie Okor, from Amakpu Mgbede Akeze, ivo local government area of Ebonyi state.
I am pleading with the Governor of Ebonyi state, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to kindly come to our rescue. Our life is in danger and nobody is safe again in Mgbede Akeze because of what is happening. The people of Amakpu mgbede are crying. Over one hundred family men are no more living in mgbede due to the destruction, killing and looting of property because of allegations leveled against us. I am pleading again Your Excellency sir, in all condition, come and rescue your children because we are still your children. As it stands now, demolition and vandalization is still going on in my kindred, mgbede Akeze. All our crops in the farms, house property has all been looted by the hoodlums in our community. Your Excellency, we appeal to you to use your good office and intervene in this matter to save our soul. What is happening in mgbede is pathetic and I am not the cause of the crises".
He revealed that though, there has been series of killings in Mgbede community, but the community was thrown into deep crises following the killing of one Mrs Cecilia Eze on 9th November, 2024 and subsequent arrest, killing and burning of the alleged killer of Cecilia Eze on the 12th day of November, 2024.
Okor, narrated further that on the 13 of November, the Amakpu kindred were chased out of the community and began demolition and looting of their property on the claim the young which they have already killed confessed that Amakpu kindred was the people that sponsored him to kill the woman.
He however, lamented that the coordinator and the town Union president has not done much to settle the crisis, but he is not accusing them of instigating the crisis.
"The coordinator of Akeze Development center, Hon. Chinasa Okorie is aware of what is happening. A week before last week, him and Hon. Joseph Obasi, the president Akeze town Union came to the office of commissioner for border peace and conflict resolution, and we all agreed to meet at Mgbede to look into the matter this last Thursday being 6th of February, 2025. But as we were preparing for the meeting we got another information that the meeting will no longer hold".
He appealed to the council chairman and all authorities concern to intervene in the matter so that permanent peace be achieved in Amakpu mgbede.
When contacted, the coordinator of Akaeze Development Center, Hon. Chinasa Okorie said, he has done so much in trying to put an end to crises in mgbede community and assured that in no distant time, permanent peace will return to the area. He said, he had meeting with the aggrieved party at mgbede and has softened the ground for those that ran away from the community to retun so that lasting peace will return.
"We're doing everything to make sure that peace return in mgbede, even the commissioner for border peace and conflict resolution was in Akaeze because of that mgbede matter and he was able to address the people and told them to toe the line of Peace and since then, they have not been any crisis in mgbede. We are only trying to control and soften the ground for the accused. As far as we are concerned, the mater is 65% settled and by our next week meeting, we will bring everything to an end".
