The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs. Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has inaugurated a series of charity projects sponsored by the Senator, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi.
The commissioning took place on Friday, February 14, 2025, across different locations within the senatorial zone.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady applauded Senator Nwebonyi for his commitment to community development, describing his initiatives as a demonstration of genuine leadership and compassion.
The projects commissioned include a fully furnished house for Mrs. Nnenna Adoke at Ndigwe Igbeagu, Izzi LGA; a two-bedroom bungalow for a widow, Mrs. Patricia Ben Nwofoke, at Adam Village, Ndiuruku Amegu, Abakaliki LGA; and an 8,000-litre motorized borehole at Ndunkwegu Primary School, Enyibuchiri Amegu, Abakaliki LGA, to provide clean drinking water for the community.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Nwifuru expressed delight over the senator’s efforts to uplift his constituents. She stated, “Today, I am very happy because our distinguished senator has proven that he has the people’s interest at heart. Just like the governor, he is showing love and support to those who voted for us. This is a clear example of what true leadership looks like.”
She further urged other lawmakers to emulate his dedication, stating that his actions are proof that federal representation can bring real benefits to the people.
In his remarks, Senator Nwebonyi revealed that philanthropy has always been a part of his life, even before venturing into politics.
“I started giving to the poor long before I joined politics, and God saw my efforts and elevated me into public office. This position has given me the opportunity to amplify my good intentions.
“Today, we have commissioned two-bedroom bungalows for vulnerable people in my zone, and we have more coming. Out of the 10 housing units planned, five are already completed.”
Beyond housing and water supply, the senator highlighted his commitment to infrastructural development. “Currently, I am constructing 18 kilometers of concrete roads across the four local government areas of Ebonyi North. Unlike asphalt, which does not last on our soil, we are using concrete to ensure durability for at least 50 years.”
“Also, in two weeks we shall be distributing farm inputs to our people, we going to give them rice seedlings, herbicides, fertilizers, so we are capturing about 3,000 farmers I did it last year and it paid off . Many that I empowered last year are now millionaires, some got fifty bags of rice.
“I want to use this medium to reassure the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial zone that I will not stop in doing good. I will not stop in appreciating them, I’m the youngest senator to be on that seat since the creation of Ebonyi North Senatorial zone, and I must tell them that I’m youthful and useful to them.”
