Commissioner Warns Traditional Rulers Against Engaging In Obnoxious Practices

The state Commissioner for Border peace and conflict Resolution, Dr Donatus Ilang has cautioned the Traditional Rulers of Amasiri extraction of making rules and policies that is against the fundamental rites of citizens and contrary to the policy of the  state Government in ensuring peace in all parts of the state. The commissioner gave the advise recently in his office while meeting with  Government officials traditional Rulers, Essas and  stakeholders of Amasiri extraction in Afikpo Local Government Area of the state. Dr Ilang frowned at the outrageous fines imposed on the leadership of ihie in opi community of Amasiri clan for signing peace pact with their neighbours of okporojo and directed the leadership of Amasiri clan to refund the fine.  


Earlier in their remarks the Traditional Ruler of  Amasiri Community, HRH Ezeogo Omezue Idam Bassey and his counterpart of Ndukwe Community HRH Godfrey Obia Oko noted that Amasiri clan is law abiding communities and expressed the readiness to abide by the Government directives noting that the money collected from ihie as fines will be refunded to them within two weeks.


They called on the State Government to speed up the implementation of committee recommendations on disputed areas between some village /communities of Edda and  Amasiri.


A stakeholder in the community and leader of Ihie delegation chief Joseph Akpu maintained that the signing of the peace communique between ihie and okporojo is in response to the state Government directives on peaceful coexistence between the two Communities and nothing that the peace communique has ushered in peace between the two villages. He thanked the Government of Ebonyi state  Rt. Hon. Bulider Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru for setting the process of reconciliation and intervention in Ebonyi state and the commissioner for his proactive ways in conflict Resolution and prevention.
