By Celestine Okeh, Abakaliki

Ministery of Capital City and Urban  Development on Thursday, sealed off a  cooking gas plant located at Mbam Agbo axis of the state capital for building gas station in a residential area and without approval from the ministry.

Sealing off the Gas station, the commissioner for Capital City and Urban Development, Chief Sunday Inyima frawned at the action of the owner, noting that the area is  purely mapped out and gazetted as  residential area and wondered why the owner decided to cite the gas station in such area.

The commissoner however, ordered for immediate removal of the gas station and that the owner should go and explain to the police why he engaged in such unauthorized venture.

Inyima warned that the ministry will not spare anyone that would want to engage is such unauthorized venture.
"It is very very abnormal to have a gas plant, especially, of this nature in a neighborhood like this. One, all the bordering properties are supposed to be residential. There's no road that separate this place from other adjoining properties. Secondly, there's no approval for this type of gas plant here because, this is purely residential area. A layout already gazetted by Government, so you cannot begin to adjust the purpose clause just as it pleases you. That's why we got this information this morning and had to  quickly intervene to ensure that this is sealed and be removed immediately . Let him relocate it to anywhere and that's what we have come to do.
"The law enforcement agencies have taken him up and will explain to us why he is doing this kind of business here. He has to pay penalty to Government coffers to serve as deterrent to others.

"Any other person that wants to try this type of thing will still face the same penalty", he concluded.
