As part of effort to reduce maternal mortality rate in the rural communities of Ebonyi state, over 300 rural pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of five, on Tuesday benefited from the monthly free medical outreach sponsored by the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Moses Ije Odunwa.
The free medical outreach which took place at Udumowo primary health center in Inyimegu, Ikwo Local Government Area of the state, provided opportunity for pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of five to be screened of various ailments and equally administered drugs to them free of charge.
According to the speaker, Moses Odunwa, represented by the wife Florence Odunwa, the essence of the free medical care is to support Governor Francis Nwifuru's people's charter of needs in providing free health care to pregnant women, nursing mothers and their babies in the rural area who cannot afford the medical care due to economic constraints.

On her part, the leader of the medical team and coordinator, Baby shower intervention in Ebonyi state, Aloh Ngozi, said, the medical services are of different categories. "Today, we have different beneficiaries depending on their status and services that was rendered to them.
"We have pregnant mothers. We have children health services. We have family planning. We also have people that came for TB screening and all that. You can also see a lot of mothers here that received services like health education on HBV uptake.
Looking at the numbers here, we have recorded over 65 pregnant mothers that received antenatal care. For child health, you can see by yourself, we have over 150 to 200 children here under 5years".
She advised the beneficiaries especially the pregnant women to ensure they visit health facility and deliver their babies there.
The speaker used the health outreach to distribute Pampers to over 300 hundred nursing mothers among other things.
Some of the beneficiaries which include Mrs Friday Charity, Ngozi Nweke,. Umunna joy and Happiness Itumo Among others appreciated the sponsor for giving them the opportunity to access the health care ,which according to them would have cost a lot of money.
