Border Peace Commissioner Resolves Pre-Election Impasse In Ebonyi Community

The  pre- election tussle of Nkalagu town development union has been resolved following an intervention by the state Commissioner for Border peace and conflict Resolution Dr Donatus Ilang. Addressing the stakeholders and concerned citizens of Nkalagu Community on Friday in his office, Dr Ilang noted that the ministry summon the meeting following a request from concerned citizens of the community calling for election into the community development union. The Commissioner while emphasizing on the importance of peace in the  Community directed that Imeoha village who have hold the president of the community in the person of Mr omaba Chigbo for over four years to step down for Uwule village who it is their turn to produce the town Union president to do So. He however upholds the rotation and zoning system among the villages of the community irrespective of where the traditional Ruler of the community hails from. 


The conflict Resolution boss futher directed the traditional Ruler and the caretaker chairman of the community to convene an enlarged stakeholders meeting within two weeks where the various villages will select one person each for members of the electoral committee and report back to Government for possible selection of a date and supervision of the election by the relevant authorities 


Speaking earlier stakeholders of the community including a former National Assembly member Distinguish Senator Obinna Ogba ,  SSA to the Governor on House of Assembly matters ,Hon Ali  Okechukwu  Mr Ozoemena Nnaji and  chief Emmanuel onyirioha maintained that the election into the Town development union had been rotatory among the 5 components the villages of Nkalagu and that the present caretaker committee led by. Mr Desmond Eze has overstayed and called for democratically elected town union to be instituted in accordance with the community constitution.


The traditional Ruler of Nkalagu Community HRH Eze Mathias Nnaji called for unity and peace in the community and solicited for cooperation of stakeholders to achieve reconciliation .


In a vote of thanks, a member of local Government service commission, Hon Ikechukwu Ogbu and the Cordinator of Ishielu west Development center Hon Emeka Ali thanked the Governor of Ebonyi State  Rt Hon Bulider Ogbonnaya Nwifuru for the good work in the state especially in the areas of peace and security. They expressed gratitude to the commissioner for ingenuity displayed in resolving the pre election tussle . They promised on behalf of the community to abide by the resolution reached in the meeting.
